I've been thinking about valentines. Years ago our great-grandparents
went to a lot of work to make a valentine. Ready made valentines were
not available in any store like they are today.
They would gather bits of
lace and ribbon to decorate the valentine. They would work meticulously
to be sure the writing was not only legible but attractive. Red hearts and
angels were common themes. Some would use a paintbrush others a
pencil, and some pen and ink.
They would think about the words they wanted to share with the one they loved. A poem or catchy phrase that
would express their feelings in just the right way. Sometimes they would
find a picture of a romantic scene or a pretty flower that they could glue
onto the valentine. The recipient of such a valentine would know that the
giver had put a lot of thought and work into the valentine card. Sometimes
a bouquet of flowers would accompany the card. Finding flowers in
February would not be easy. It would require some sacrifice. Crocus
and Daffodils, maybe some Queen Anne's lace or a Pansy might be
found. Another popular gift would be candy. There again that would
have been hard to find and expensive to buy. Some homemade fudge
would be the choice of some. I would require buying the ingredients
and cooking them, watching closely for the different stages it must go
through to become that wonderful confection. So giving your loved one
a valentine was not to be regarded lightly.
Why I like Butterflies
2 Corinthians 5:17 is one of my favorite verses.
As a young Christian, I was feeling frustrated at not being as "good" as I thought I should be. (I was almost 29 when I was saved. You can learn a lot of bad behavior in 28 years.) I even began to doubt my salvation. Our Father is so faithful.
I came upon this verse and noticed one tiny little two-letter word - "is". "...if any man is in Christ he is a new creation...." Not gonna be, hopes to be, might be, but is a new creation. I realized then that because of Jesus' redemptive work on
the cross, the creepy crawly, nasty, waller in the dirt caterpillar that I was had become a new creature. Taa-daa!! I am flying high on my butterfly wings. So I always have a butterfly around to remind me to stay out of the dirt and act like a
butterfly.
Jesus loves you and I do, too.

Power in a Name
I heard that Brit Hume of Fox news spoke two unspeakable words on TV.
Have you heard about the ruckus that Brit Hume started while he was interviewing Tiger Woods?
It seems that everyone in the media has a comment to make about 2 words that Brit said.
No the words weren’t the “N” word or the “F” word, had it been either of those words the media most likely would have just made passing comments.
